Attempted Robbery Occurred Near Campus

On 11/09/10 at about 12:57 a.m. a female UCR student was walking west on University Ave. near the 215 freeway underpass. Two males approached her from behind, grabbed her backpack, knocked her down and attempted to take the backpack.

The suspects ran away northbound towards the freeway on ramp when a bystander saw the struggle and ran toward the victim.

The victim was able to retain her backpack and suffered no injuries. No weapons were seen and no suspect vehicle was seen or heard.

Riverside PD dispatched units to the area. UCPD officers in the area heard the call and found the victim. As this crime occurred in the city of Riverside, the Riverside Police Department will be conducting the follow up investigation.

Suspects are described as follows:

  • Suspect #1: Black male, early 20’s, 5’8” tall, thin build, wearing a baseball cap with a stocking cap underneath, dark long sleeve shirt, and jeans.
  • Suspect #2: Black male, early 20’s, 5’8” tall, thin build, wearing a knit cap, dark long sleeve shirt, and dark jeans.

UCPD would like to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings, avoid walking anywhere late at night, and walk with friends when possible. Anyone that may have witnessed this crime or has any related information is asked to call Riverside PD at 951-787-7911.

Two Robberies Occur on Campus
Indecent Exposure on Linden Street

On April 14, 2010 at about 10:30 a.m. the city of Riverside Police responded to the area of 1117 Linden Street near Iowa Ave. for an indecent exposure that had just occurred. Two female UCR students were walking westbound on Linden St. when they noticed a vehicle slowly following them in the bike lane. The driver was seen masturbating and was obviously trying the get the victims’ attention. The suspect drove away westbound on Linden Street towards Iowa Ave. Officers checked the area, but could not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as “younger” Hispanic male adult.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black colored 2000’s Chevrolet Tahoe with a partial California License plate: 5BM__61.

UCPD is asking anyone with any information about this crime to contact the Riverside Police Department at 951.787.7911. UCPD would like to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings when walking alone and to make an effort to walk with a friend, especially at night.

Attempted Sexual Assault in Lot 5

On March 17, 2010 at about 12:20 a.m. a female UCR student reported an attempted sexual assault that occurred about 3 hours earlier to officers at the University of California Police Department station. The victim stated that she left the Rivera Library and walked to her vehicle that was parked in parking lot #5. When she opened her vehicle door a suspect grabbed her hair from behind and prevented her from looking at him. The suspect then wrapped his arms around her chest, holding her arms at her side.

The victim struggled, but could not move. The suspect told the victim to take off her shorts. The victim was able to break free from the suspect. She pulled a pen from her pants pocket and jabbed it in the suspect's chest area.

The suspect pulled the pen out of his clothing and walked quickly to eastbound towards lot 6. The victim was able to get in her vehicle and leave the area.

Suspect Description:

  • Black male, about 40 years old, 5'8 tall, muscular build, and facial hair stubble.
  • The suspect spoke with a deep voice and smelled dirty as if he was a transient.
  • He was last seen wearing black sweat pants and a black pull over sweatshirt.

UCPD is asking anyone with any information about this crime to contact the University of California Police Department at 951.827.5222. UCPD would like to remind everyone to be aware of their surroundings when walking alone and to make an effort to walk with a friend, especially at night.
