The California Department of Justice (DOJ) provides an automated service for criminal background checks that may be required as a condition of employment, licensing, certification, foreign adoptions or VISA/Immigration clearances. Here is information for individuals needing to submit fingerprints for background checks.

Beginning July 1st, 2005, all applicant fingerprint submissions to the DOJ must be transmitted electronically. Live Scan digital submissions provide the quickest way to submit and process background checks.

Applicants must get instructions and the forms required for fingerprinting services from their agency requiring their criminal history background check. Since different forms are used, individuals should be receiving fingerprint applications from the agency that is requesting their prints.


1. Obtain a Request for Livescan Service form, usually supplied by the agency or organization requesting your fingerprints

2. Complete the form before you go to the Police Department to be fingerprinted.

3. Make an appointment by contacting the UCR Police Department's front desk at (951) 827-7285. Appointment times are weekdays, 8am to 1:30pm.

4. Be prepared to pay a $15.00 rolling fee by cash, checks or department recharges only. There may be additional fees, depending on the type of application, i.e. Department of Justice Processing fee (DOJ) $32.00, Federal Bureau of Investigation processing fee (FBI) $24.00*

5. Bring your Livescan form, a valid government issued photo ID, and the appropriate payment to the UCR Police department located on 3500 Canyon Crest Dr. (Corner of Linden St. and Canyon Crest Dr.)
